I don't know how where to start, but Eric broke up with me 3 weeks ago. I've been struggling, and trying to talk him out of it, but there is no hope. He is currently on an exchange year in Japan and there, already has been meeting other girls and has been hanging out with one of them. He just told me that he's going to watch the Lenonid showers with her next week, at a hidden temple.

We are still chatting with each other, as he is my closest friend and I cannot bear to lose that also, but it hurts me, tears me apart inside to see how he is moving on so fast and so well. The girl fits his type perfectly, and makes me feel old (she's only 18, I'm 26) and useless (she can be there for him and cheer him up) and pathetic (I've been a mess and said embarassing things in desperation).

It's even more depressing breaking up from a long LRD, that lasted almost 3 years. We haven't been able to spend more than 1.5 months at a time together, and I've always felt that we didn't start our "real relationship" yet and the best is yet to come. But now, this makes everything we've experienced feel like a big lie, a fruitless wait and a huge waste of time. He keeps saying that this is the best for both of us, but we've always talked about HIS problems only, that HE couldn't wait for more until we could be together. It feels like it's only my loss. I'm in a rut, and I don't know what to do.

Ok, so I found this great Christmas fabric on ebay, super beautiful border print. Problem one: color scheme. It's navy + gold. I don't wear much navy and I HATE gold. Solution, coordinate with cream! Yay, problem solved.. wait.. I need at lease a little cream in the skirt or it might look kinda weird. Idea! Cream bustle! *sketch sketch sketch* Looks good on paper. Now the bigger problem.. I have no idea how to cut the fabric to achieve the look I want. Any suggestions?( Cut to the chase.. I mean the pics! )

Has anyone used or looked at Newlook 6776?
Does the skirt need to be changed at all to make it wider/have a larger circumference?

This is about the only pattern where I found such a waistband. I've loved dresses that have one color for the bodice and skirt, then another color for the waist section and ruffles. Does anyone recommend maybe another pattern to use?

Final question- how are Newlook patterns generally? Easy to work with? Pretty exact size wise?

i would like to begin by saying that all of you are splendidly talented! i am turning green with envy as i browse through the posts. ♥

and now, i would like to ask, dears, if i may pluck your brains for knowledge and advice? when it comes to sewing i am a fledgling, at best. i know a fair bit of hand-sewing, but as for machine sewing the extent of my experience is straight and reverse stitching (as well as threading the machine, and winding a bobbin, and other such basics ...). i am terribly interested in sewing lolita garments! what would be a suitable beginning project for me? i thought, perhaps, a pair of bloomers or petticoat. what sort of materials and fabrics would i require? where do you like to shop for fabrics (please suggest websites, i live in a very rural area)?

please, any help would be appreciated! thank-you very very much ♪

Dear Lovers Far Away,(i thought this was cute.. so i left it)

How we met: We went to high school together but never associated with each other, 4 years passed. i was browsing a couple friends pages on myspace. went to one friend. and then another friend, i saw him. read his profile, i like him. so i added him. we chatted for a week about alcohol. for those in a military relationship know. alcohol is a service mans best friend. haha. and then finally he gave me his number. we text and talked. at first i was head strung about not getting into a relatonship with him. he decided to come home in october. as the time grew closer. we grew more and more attached to each other. i look forward to texting him the next day. soon he came home for a week. by far the best week of my life. we were inseparable for that week. he went home, and a couple days asked me to be his gf. so now, here we are. and this has been by far the best part of my year

We get to see each other (approximately how often): with the miitary it is always up in the air. it'll be 2 months until i see him again. and after that if i'm lucky another couple months. and then come spring if he doesn't come home. it'll be a year. bc i'll be going to hawaii next chistmas to see him.

Future plans: be happy with each other until he gets out of the service. and then once he comes home for good in 2011 we will discuss marriage. and then he will decide if he wants to try another branch of the military or stay home as a civilian.

Did you make changes from original plan? Just a little bit, I kind of pictured at least three ruffled tiers in my original design, but my amount of fabric due to being leftovers and an unfortunate cigarette burn to the fabric only allowed for two.
How happy are you with the result? 80% it was more of a learning-skirt. I'd probably be more happy with it if I had a serger to do seams with, it's also a few inches short due to miscalculation. It's way too short when worn with the petti I made, so it'll probably end up a casual skirt unless I make a softer petticoat to go with it.

Did you make changes from original plan? A bit. I used sewing blog Threadbanger's halloween "tutu" tutorial (Which makes a quick and easy petticoat) Threw out there measuremeants and did it by eye, then I used crinoline rather than tulle for more poof.
How happy are you with the result? 99.9 Percent, it could probably be better, but I think it's good for something I cranked out in a day. Plus I'm in love with the poof it's given my skirts.

Hey, Horrible fans. Just wanted to let you all know that Uconn (at the Storrs campus) will be performing Dr. Horrible today and tomorrow. If you're at all in the area, stop by! It's five bucks admission in the Student Union theatre. I'm not sure if they'll be recording it, but if not, I'm bringing my camera. So hopefully I'll have some videos to bring back. :)

Summary: Seriously, you'd think people in fictional stories would know better than to touch ouija boards.

Listening to the two friends brought Bucky's memory back to the war and the down time he and Steve had spent together between battles, just being young.
